Wrestling mats are more popular than ever before, as many people increasingly do their workouts at home. Regular flooring like hardwood, tiles and carpeting is not well-suited for these activities.
You can’t perform high-impact exercises like aerobics and jump-roping on normal floors, because you can injure yourself and damage the floor. Low-impact moves like sit-ups also require some support other than hard floors. Your main goal with these mats is to safely reduce strain on your back, feet, elbows and knees, followed by convenience and, of course, an affordable price.
When buying these mats, you’ll need to know how much room you have. These mats come in various sizes and thicknesses. Thicker doesn’t always mean better, though.
Most wrestling mats are made from cross-linked polyethylene foam or PVC rubber nitrile foam. Some feel that the rubber foam absorbs more impact, so it doesn’t have to be as thick as mats made with cross-linked polyethylene. If you do high-impact workouts, you will want to focus on more shock-absorbent mats.
