Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

The Nest offers around-the-clock video recording, with AI-powered motion detection and facial recognition, so it’s a great home-security option. For simply watching your door, it’s overkill.
Facial recognition. 24/7 monitoring and free cloud storage. Pre-recorded greetings.
After a couple of weeks running the Nest Doorbell (wired) in place of my older Nest Hello, I’ve got to say that I’m quite happy with the upgrade. The new features unlocked by the Google Home app are super useful, and the updated camera that sees more of the porch is truly valuable. Really, there’s nothing much to complain about with the new Nest Doorbell. It’s a solid upgrade on just about everything.
Sleek design. Face recognition. Motion and sound detection. Sharp HD video. Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Familiar Faces feature. Image quality. Smart notifications with subscription.
-
High-quality video. Chime included. Head-to-toe view. Notifications don’t require a subscription.
Good image quality. 24/7 recording. Familiar Faces feature. Impressive AI-powered smart alerts. Compact, attractive design. Works with Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

What reviewers didn't like

This comprehensive approach comes with an elevated price, however: A Nest Aware subscription, which is essential for video recording, costs $6 a month to capture motion events and store them for 30 days; it costs $12 per month to store events for 60 days or to store 24/7 recording for 10 days. So the operating costs are higher than for most doorbell cameras we tested.
Difficult to install. Not compatible with all transformers. Delayed notifications.
Setup requires working with electrical wiring. Must have existing chime box. Need Nest Aware subscription for many features.
Expensive. $6-a-month subscription fee.
-
Expensive subscription plan. Requires doorbell wire.
Connectivity issues on 2.4GHz. Night vision is unimpressive. Google Home app still needs work.
