While it's made almost completely from plastic, the reusable filter makes up for the environmental impact a little, and the glass decanter is one of the most durable out there, and pretty enough to use as a serving vessel. Todd Simpson is undoubtedly the father of modern cold brew, and it should come as no surprise that it took a coffee-loving chemical engineer to devise the perfect brewer to eliminate coffee acid and produce a heavy, smooth, silky iced coffee with almost no hassle.
Fortunately, it makes rich, full-bodied cold-brewed coffee that tastes as robust as any other method I’ve tried so far, sometimes better.

What reviewers didn't like

Like many manual cold brew coffee products, brewing with the Toddy system takes some practice to perfect. The Toddy Cold Brew System is also tall and eats up some counter space when brewing. The Toddy can't use paper filters and comes with just one reusable felt filter and rubber stopper.
-
You have to remove a rubber stopper to drain the coffee after 24 hours, which will always get your hands messy—cleanup is time-consuming.
- Wired
Doesn't have a lid, long-term durability concerns.
Can be tough to find replacement filters. Plastic components seem flimsy.
- Heavy
Concentrate must be manually heated or cooled.
Brewing container is plastic. Rubber stoppers may need to be replaced. Takes a while to drain after brewing.
Clean up process is not seamless.
However, some customers have noted that the process of removing the stopper to drain the brewed coffee into the decanter is complicated and messy. Ultimately this brewer is more challenging to use than other models on the market today. Additionally, the plastic construction of the brewing device is a turn-off for many consumers.
Some users have complained that the product is a little complicated in its use, but with time you will get used to it.
Poorly-designed brewing chamber makes it awkward to pour coffee concentrate into the carafe. The 56 oz capacity may be too much for someone looking to make one or two servings at a time.
Slightly flimsier than some of the competition so handle with care.
-
Difficult to find the replacement filters
Made of plastic and hence, it can get cracked. The rubber Stopper leaks.
Could use a better look.
Unfortunately, the Toddy Cold Brewer materials are as frail as they look. For making a cold brew every now and then we felt comfortable using, but for those that like to have a cold brew on tap, you might need to replace it fairly quickly!
Cleaning is not as easy as it looks. The plastic rim is shallow.
Make sure to place the rubber stopper correctly in the brewer. You need to purchase new filters.
Plastic handle feels a little flimsy. Instructions are a little fiddly.
The smaller, at home brewer doesn't come with paper filters as the commercial size brewer does. Not aesthetically pleasing.
Batch volume is a bit generous for one person. No lid for brewer. Lackluster aesthetics. Stopper removal can be messy.
Sometimes the container is too heavy. Takes a lot of time to prepare.
Much smaller compared to other home coffee makers. Plastic-made immersion receptacle.
